New Heart for the New Year

By: Sarah Fox

2017 is approaching very quickly. Why not start the new year with a new heart?

I’m sure that everyone knows John 3:16 like the back of their hand. For many of us, reciting that verse is almost as easy as breathing. It’s our source of peace and the answer to the sufficient power of the gospel. With all of this in mind, do we ever stop and think about what this verse truly means? John 3:16 is the most well known verse in today’s society. Can you imagine the powerful impact that the verse would have if everyone took its message to heart?

John 3:16 simply means that God loved mankind so much that He sacrificed His one and only son (Jesus Christ) in order to save us from our sins. Jesus came to earth in order to taste the sting of death for us. In His suffering on the cross, He thought about us. Through His blood, we are cleansed of all our sins and we are made whole and free from all iniquity. We don’t have to fear death anymore because Jesus paid the full price for our salvation. This is the Gospel in a nutshell. The most important part of the verse ends with: “But whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” This part of the verse explains what salvation is all about. Its free, simple and has a great reward.

The road to salvation can be traveled in three easy steps:

Step 1: Come

The first step is simply coming to Jesus with all your brokenness. God never despises a broken heart. Nothing that you can ever do will make God stop loving you. He wants you to come to Him just as you are.

Step 2: Confess

The second step is confessing your sin to God. It doesn’t have to be a fancy prayer. The Lord knows your heart and He is willing to take all your burdens and make your spirit lighter. All you have to do is ask God to forgive you, take away your sins, and help you to surrender your life to Jesus Christ.

Step 3: Believe

Once you confess your sin to God and ask Jesus to come into your life, all you need to do now is trust that He will guide your new life in Christ. The Christian life is not an easy one, but the Lord will always be with you and the Holy Spirit will be your guide.

Many people think that everlasting life is living forever, but really, everlasting life is having a relationship with the Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ. The Lord is willing to take your heart and make you new. He is standing at the door of your heart, waiting for you to open up and let Him in. Salvation is available to everyone! That whosoever is you! Don’t go into the new year with  the same nature. Have a brand new heart for this brand new year!

I wish you all the best for this new year! HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and your family! God bless you all!
